In May 2025, Downtown Stores partnered with Returnal to launch a circular trade-in programme for small appliances. The initiative allows customers to return used electrical items in exchange for store credit - reducing waste, promoting reuse, and strengthening loyalty.

Seamless Technology: A custom sub-domain was deployed to bypass Downtownʼs internal IT roadmap, with Returnal managing the full tech stack.

Integrated Logistics: Customers receive a QR code, drop items at local collection points, and products are routed for refurb or resale - zero impact on store operations.

Resale & Recovery: Refurbished goods are resold, returning value to Downtown and supporting a zero-to-landfill policy.

Community & Social Impact: In partnership with Shine Lincolnshire, Returnal built a local repair initiative that upskills residents to refurbish items unsuitable for resale - supporting employment, community wellbeing, and a circular local economy.
